I have been a fitness professional since 1984. Before that, I was a massage
therapist. I have always been interested in helping people feel more comfortable
with their bodies. I have also been passionately interested in ways to access
total health and wellbeing.
For many years I taught various types of fitness
classes: Hi-lo aerobics,
interval training, strength training, step, kickboxing,
circuit training and Pilates. I taught between 8 and 10 classes a
week for 19 years. It was fun and rewarding. I loved relating to all
the wonderful people who came to my classes, young and old, some pregnant
and others with two or three young ones trailing close behind. I offered
childcare so it was truly a family affair. At the time I was also
personal training an average of 5-6 clients a week.
I started teaching Pilates in 2000. The mellowness and quiet focus
it provides has been life-changing for me. I started teaching more mat
classes and less step aerobics.
I bought a couple of reformers, a Cadillac, and a stability chair,
and started training clients in my little studio. I now only teach 5
classes a week- 4 Pilates and 1 Strength Training At this point in my
life, I have yet another perfect schedule I train upward of 5 people
on every given week in my Pilates Studio.
My favorite thing to do is to combine fitness with nutritional
coaching.
I began a wholistic Nutrition training in 2002, which I totally adore.
It is such a fabulous way to help my clients really succeed at reaching
their goals. What you eat totally determines whether you lose or gain
weight, feel good, and stay healthy. I am still taking the training,
going for a Nutrition Consultant certification. I've been taking on
nutrition clients since 2003 when I officially became a certified Diet
Counselor. I usually see 2- 3 clients a week for nutritional support.
In January of 2005, I became certified as a Fitness
by Phone® Coach.
Now, I can offer all these services and many more, not only to locals,
but also to anyone in the world! That is truly exciting to me. I am
able to ship my clients the equipment they need for success (the most
important components of which can fit in their pocket) and help them
realize their goals by weekly conversations either on the phone or internet.
I'm working on getting an 800 number so people can call me free of charge.
Fitness by Phone has been extensively researched at Stanford University
and has proven to be 75% more effective than traditional personal training.
The reason for this is that it teaches you self-efficacy- to rely on
yourself rather than the presence of a trainer. Also, you learn lots
of ways to work out anywhere- at home, the gym, out of doors, even when
you are traveling.
The possibilities are endless. Gone are the excuses
of no time when now you can literally do it anywhere.
Also, no chance of getting bored with your routine when
you know how to change and adapt it yourself to your
own needs! Learning to eat for your own body type will
